Association “Happy child”  and Association Forum Science is elaborating a project concerning informal education. Its aim is widening and enrichment the erudition of young people with disabilities, particularly sightless ones. The project is being realized with the support of the forum’s youth team to www.nauka.bg (website of “Bulgarian science” online magazine).

The team of “Bulgarian science” online magazine found assistance of sightless people who use Internet and came up with the idea for the project “Read me” two years ago. The project itself was widely approved. However, the project work has been suspended due to financial difficulties. The main part of the project consists of 20 articles being read and recorded by the participants and volunteers. The articles are conformable to the teaching material and suitable for young people 16-18 years of age.

The participants will work the materials using the techniques stipulated in the project. The articles will be recorded on 1000 CDs in a suitable for sightless people format and then spread in schools for sightless children in Sofia and Varna, the structures of Union of Blind People and other organizations working with children with such problems. The techniques provided will contribute to the team in order to be more flexible and mobile. In addition, more volunteers can be involved in the project and go on with its activities even after its conclusion.

Updating and adding new functions to the website ( www.nauka.bg ), where the initiative started, is stipulated within the project – improvement of the code of the website, so that sightless children have access to the website; creation of audio section, where the articles can be listened to or downloaded.

The purpose of the project is to give assistance to children and young people with damaged eyesight by providing them access to the selected materials. This project aims to incorporate these young people to informal education, to acquaint them with science and science popular literature, and ultimately help them with their education and integration.
